Code of Practice
► What you will need for this course:
- the textbook and the study guide (see bibliography in Chemistry Course Outline) available also at the school’s book-store
- the Lab Log-book (available at the IB department)
- a lab coat (available also at the school’s book-store)
- agenda for daily planning and “to do” notes (you may use one for all subjects)
- Graphic Display Calculator. Not any calculator, only those recommended by your maths teacher
- A4-size plastic cases to hand in homework and lab reports
- note pad with lines and holes on the left side (for the sheets to be filed in the folder)
- a folder only for this course and with 4 partitions for the following subjects:
1) Handouts
2) Lecture notes
3) Homework
4) Tests – Exams
- an active email account and an internet connection
► Class rules:

be in class in time. 3 minutes after the bell rings, you will not be admitted in class without a permission slip from the administration

all electronic devices are deactivated and kept in your school bag when you are in class

respect your classmates. Do not interrupt or insult anyone.
► Rules on laboratory work:
-
students without lab coat are not allowed in the chemistry lab
-
the chemistry laboratory safety rules must be strictly followed

data are recorded in the Lab Logbook and a copy (yellow page) is handed in to the instructor at the end of the lab work

lab reports are handed in within 7 days after the lab work is performed

lab reports must be the student’s own work. If there is evidence of plagiarism (authenticity of report is not certified), the instructor does not accept the report and the student gets a warning for malpractice.
► Rules on homework assessment:
- the homework is stapled and put in a plastic case before submission
- it must contain:
a) the course name and level (SL/HL)
b your name
c) submission date
- the corrected homework should be studied and put in the course folder
- homework submission is compulsory. Homework is handed in on time, at the set deadline. There is a 10% reduction of the homework grade for every day of delay. No homework is accepted later than 2 days after the set deadline.
- homework must be the student’s own work. If there is evidence of plagiarism (authenticity of homework is not certified), the homework is not accepted and the student gets a warning for malpractice.
- if a student copies the homework of a classmate, both students get a zero mark and get a warning for malpractice.
